goin' to the chapel

we're leaving for portland in the morning, for my sister's wedding weekend. it should be quite the interesting trip, given the abundance of weird family dynamics:

maid-of-honor debacle

of last spring.

*my dad still doesn't know...(since my archives from last fall seem to have disappeared, so i can't link them, i'll explain...) that my sister knows that she is not his biological daughter.

*s will meet my family for the first time (except for my sister-in-law, who visited us last fall).

*s will be the only person of color at the wedding (a fact confirmed by the guest list).

*my other (older) sister is a homophobic bigot (and a "born-again christian").

*i will meet my 8-year-old niece (daughter of said older sister) for the first time, and see her 10-year-old brother for the first time since he was an infant.

*my parents (who've been divorced for 29 years) had a fight at the last big family event (my sister's 1998 graduation from

thunderbird

), after which my mom freaked out and left early.

*it will feel to all of us like "someone's missing"...and that someone is my brother.

don't you wish you could come along? *grin*
